About Pinguicula
Watering
For my Mexican butterworts I use the tray method. I fill my trays with about 2 inches of water and then let the water evaporate before refilling.
Propagation
Butterworts are typically easy to propagate through leaf pullings. Just gently pull a leaf off, being sure to get the white part at the base of the leaf, and lay it face up on the soil. Baby plants will start growing from the end of each leaf.
What's up with their name?​
Pinguicula means "little greasy one" in Latin referring to the trapping strategy that butterworts use. If you feel their leaves they seem oily, almost slimy. Great for catching smaller prey such as fruit flies!
Flowers
Butterworts have some of the most beautiful flowers in the carnivorous plant world. If you plan on getting seed from them however you will need to pollinate them by hand as they do not self pollinate.
